June 11th and 12th, 2016
Forest Lawn Athletic Park
The Kiwanis Youth Diversity Cup is a two-day FREE soccer tournament that celebrates diversity through sport! Youth from culturally diverse backgrounds come together to have fun, play soccer, learn about team building & sportsmanship, and make new friends!
Alberta Health Services will also be hosting its annual Community Resource Fair on Saturday June 11th showcasing Health, Wellness, Entertainment, Food, Fun Activities and Community supports for children, youth and their families.
Our Core Values
Diversity Cup Soccer Tournament has always been built upon the core values of Leadership, Respect and Teamwork. We will continue to promote this as the heart of our tournament and Kiwanis will once again be watching over games to award banners to the 3 teams/schools that best display these core values over the weekend.
Tournament Format and Registration Information
Due to the feedback that we received we have made a few changes to the upcoming format of the tournament. All teams that participate will be playing in a round robin format. We are planning to have teams in pools of 5 teams per pool (numbers pending). We will continue to play the tournament with an 8v8 format, which gives players more opportunities to be able to play and have touches on the ball. You are going to need to have a minimum 10 players to register a team and maximum of 15 players per team. Your team can have 8 players on the field any given time and you can make substitutions accordingly.
Due to smaller team sizes we can have up to 40 teams play in the Kiwanis Youth Diversity Cup, so we will start each school with being able to register up to 5 teams each from their school You can register a U12 Boys, U12 Girls or U12 mixed team during registration.
It is recommended that coaches/ teachers not coach more than one team, as logistically it will be challenging to coach multiple teams the day of the event. The registration will be on a first registered basis and we will confirm registration status with all teams. One of our goals is to give every team the opportunity to play more. In this format, all teams (numbers permitting) will participate in 4 games. Two will be played on Saturday and two games on Sunday so the kids will all have a weekend of being able to play. If a team fails to play a game, a default score of 3 – 0 will be posted for the opposing team.
We understand that some teams may be more advanced and wish to play against similar teams. We will offer more competitive divisions/pools for teams who wish to play against similar skill level teams if possible. We ask if your team is more advanced to let us know, so that we can make sure to put your team in the proper pools.
Shin Pad Assistance
If your team or school is in need of additional shin pads this year, please contact me so that I know how many that you will need. We again want to let all schools know that the shin guards are to stay with the school, so that future players who are in need of shin guards can utilize the equipment. So if your school does find it is short, we will make sure to make an order to accommodate your players so that they have the proper equipment to be able to participate.
